Плавающие датацентры в Сан-Франциско

Небольшая компания из Сан-Франциско, размещённая в силиконовой долине, анонсировала новый проект IDS (International Data Security). Суть этого стартапа заключается в том, что эта компания собирается переоборудовать списанные сухогрузы в плавающие датацентры. Сначала планируется произвести пилотный запуск нескольких таких плавучих средств, а после расширить масштабы проекта до 50 плавающих платформ по всему миру.
Плавающие датацентры будут оснащены не только такими стандартными уже средствами размещения данных как SAN (Storage Area Network) и NAS (Network Attached Storage, но также позволят размещать физические офисы, call-центры и другие вспомогательные центры. Такую возможность предоставляют огромные площади сухогрузов. К примеру, площадь первого из запущенных будет составлять примерно 200.000 квадратных футов.
Но на этом преимущества такого вида размещения датацентра не исчерпываются. Дело в том, что планируется использовать морскую воду за бортом для охлаждения серверов, что позволит сэкономить до 30% электроэнергии по сравнению с наземными аналогами. Ещё одним примечательным моментом этого проекта является то, что питаться сервера будут от генераторов сухогруза, работающего на жидком топливе. В случае аварийной ситуаци стандартной загрузки топлива должно хватить на месяц бесперебойного питания всего датацентра.
IDS сообщает, что первый такой датацентр будет спущен на воду и пришвартован либо в Нью-Йорке, либо в Сан-Франциско в течение нескольких месяцев.
